Obituary for Helen Ghidina
Helen Jean Ghidina, 95, of Pekin passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018 at her residence. She was born January 22, 1923 in Lovilia, IA to Charles and Anna Jasper Pugh. Her parents and brothers, Earl Pugh and Jack Pugh preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Mark Ghidina of Pekin; grandson, Nicholas Ghidina of Arlington, TX and many nieces and nephews. Helen attended schools in Iowa and graduated from OSF St. Francis School of Nursing in 1944. She served as a Navy Nurse during WWII. She worked at Pekin Hospital from 1947 to 1957 and again from 1968 until her retirement in 1986 where she worked as a charge nurse on the medical and surgical floors. She also worked at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. She was a member of the Pekin Registered Nurses Club and the Altar Society at her church. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin where a funeral mass will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at the church. Father Michael Andrejek will officiate. Burial will follow the mass at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. Memorials may be made to the PRN Club in Pekin for scholarships for future nursing students.
