Obituary for Loma Burks
Loma Alice Burks, 84, of Manito passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. She was born September 12, 1933 in Manito to Nelson Ernest and Loma Edy Bailey Golden. She married Glenn Nelson Burks on August 10, 1952 in Manito; he preceded her in death March 21, 2005. Her parents and siblings, Delbert “Red” Golden, Darrell Golden, Duane “Coonie” Golden and Elvabelle “Sis” Hilst also preceded her in death. She is survived by her sons, Michael Glenn (Stacy) Burks of Pekin, Neal Douglas (Toni) Burks of Pekin; daughter, LeeAnn (Eric) Janosov of Washington; grandchildren, Brittany (Jason) Dorf, Devin (Christy) Burks, Patrick (Jami Woods) Burks, Sydney Burks, Maci Janosov; great-grandchildren, Tori and Maverick Burks, Mallory and Kinsley Dorf, Sterling and Bruce Burks and many nieces and nephews. Loma graduated from Manito High School in 1951. She worked for Caterpillar and later for Manito Township Waterworks where she was still working after 35 years. She volunteered at Emmanuel’s Warehouse where she devoted herself to helping others. Loma had a great love and faithfulness to her church where she served on numerous committees and sang in the church choir. She was a member of Community United Methodist Church 109 S. Washington St. Manito, IL 61546 where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at 10 a.m. with visitation half hour prior to the service at the church. Pastor Gregory Boylan will officiate. Visitation will also be held on Monday, January 15, 2018 at Abts Mortuary in Pekin from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Memorials may be made to her church or Emmanuel’s Warehouse in her name.
