Obituary for Lumbert "Lum" Betson Sr.
Lumbert “Lum” R. Betson Sr., 92, of Pekin passed away Thursday, November 23, 2017 at Hallmark House in Pekin. He was born September 27, 1925 in Havana to Lumbert and Loueda Straub Betson. He married Geraldine “Geri” Turner January 19, 1947 in Pekin; she preceded him in death July 26, 2009. His parents; brother, Donald Betson and nephew, Donald Betson Jr. also preceded him in death. He is survived by his children, Butch (Connie) Betson Jr. of Pekin, Michael (Gail) Betson of Pekin, Debbie (Bernard) Happach of Pekin; seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Lum graduated from Pekin Community High School and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He worked for Corn Products and 14th Street Hardware. He enjoyed reading, working on jigsaw puzzles and working in his yard. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Archbishop Schlarman Council 3507 in Pekin and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin where a funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at the church. Burial will follow the mass at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin with Military Honors. Father Michael Andrejek will officiate. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice in his name.
