Obituary for Mike Shea
Mike Shea, 77, of Pekin passed away Sunday, October 8, 2017 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. He was born July 19, 1940 in Peoria to James D. and Ruth A. Marchino Shea. He married Trudy Ann Durbin October 12, 1963 in Pekin; she preceded him in death June 29, 2007. His parents; son, Dennis Shea; granddaughter, Carolyn Jane Shea; sister, Delia Ryan and brother, James Shea also preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughter, Denise Goessman; grandchildren, Alli (Ryan) McClanahan, Natalie Shea, Shea Goessman, William Shea, Elizabeth Shea and Addison Goessman; sisters, Mary (Robert) Gover, Ann (Robert) Hickey, Pat (Jay) Bednar, Fran (Joe) Crusen; brothers, John (Pat) Shea M.D., Tom (Ann) Shea, Tim (Mary) Shea, Pete Shea; brother-in-law, Jack Ryan; sister-in-law, Cathy Shea; daughter-in-law, Jessica Shea; many nieces, nephews and his companion, Brenda Simon. He was a foster parent for over 300 children. Mike served in the U.S. Air Force National Guard and worked for Evonik Goldschmidt Corp., retiring in 2010. He was a member of K of C and active in Cursillo, WATCH and the Prison Ministry. He was a basketball coach at St. Joseph Catholic School and a Committee Representative for United Steel Workers. He enjoyed being Grandpa’s Taxi, loved taking care of animals and was an avid Cardinal Fan. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was his grandchildren’s biggest fan. He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin where a funeral mass will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 1 p.m. Father Michael Andrejek and Father David Whiteside will officiate. Burial will follow the service at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin with military honors. The visitation will be held Friday, October 13, 2017 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the church with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic School in Pekin or OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria in his name.
