Obituary for Adrian Swindler
Adrian Conda Swindler, 91, of Elmwood, IL, passed away Monday morning, Nov. 25, 2013 at Farmington Country Manor. Adrian was born in Bloomfield, IA on November 3, 1922. He had 7 brothers and sisters. Three brothers and 1 sister preceded him in death. Adrian married DeEllda Jean LaRew in Ottumwa, IA on October 6, 1945. They had four children: Barbara (Harley) Krider; Dennis (Kristine); Gary (Sue); and Bryan (Sherry). Gary preceded him in death in 2001. They have 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 3 step great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Adrian was a long-time resident and businessman of Elmwood and member of the Church of Christ for many years. He and DeEllda moved to Elmwood in 1945 after Adrian served in the Air Force during WWII. Adrian ran an upholstery shop at 116 S. Magnolia St. in Elmwood along with his wife DeEllda. In 1956 he and his wife purchased the Home Shopper which they then published for 57 years. Later he acquired The Advertiser in Princeville, IL as well as five newspapers The Elmwood Gazette, The Farmington Bugle, The Princeville Telephone, The Williamsfield Times, and the Yates City Banner which would all become the Tri-County News. Cremation rites were accorded. Memorial service plans are pending. Memorials can be made in the name of Adrian Swindler to the BYE Ambulance and Elmwood VFW.
