Obituary for Alice D. Hoerdemann
Alice D. “Mamma” Hoerdemann, also affectionately known as “Alice B. Toklas” by her husband, 56, of Peoria passed away at 3:00 p.m. Monday, August 3, 2009, at her home, with her family by her side, after a brave and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born April 30, 1953, in Rockland, Maine to J. Chief Durbala and Irene (Banks) Durbala.

On June 1, 1996, after an eight year engagement, in Peoria, Il., she married Frank J. Hoerdemann, who survives, along with her mother of Peoria; three children, Mike (Kristi) Wittekiend, Cathy (Tim) Behm, Theresa (Doug) Skibba, all of Peoria; three step-children, Brett Hoerdemann, Franz Hoerdemann, Emily Hoerdemann, all of Peoria; seven brothers and sisters, Ross (Mary) Durbala of Peoria, Ron (Gloria) Durbala of New Athens, IL., Don (Linda) Durbala of Donalsonville, GA., Joe (Maria) Durbala of Apache Junction, AZ., Mary Durbala of Peoria, Lovilia (Dave) Burton of Peoria, Fran (Andy) Williams of Peoria; eight grandchildren, Kristi “Angel” Behm, Katie “Sunshine” Behm, Kari “Love Bug” Behm, Ashley “Butterfly” Wittekiend, Alex “Teddy Bear” Skibba, Elizabeth “Little Pumpkin” Wittekiend, Abby “Little Flower” Skibba, Ryan “Cubbie Bear” Wittekiend; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father and a sister, Margie Downard.

She graduated from Peoria Central High School. She also took classes at Illinois Central College. She used that knowledge to re-upholster her father’s favorite chair as a gift to him.

She worked as a manager at Illico for five years. She was an office manager for Dr. Jay Shetty for six and a half years. After this is when she found her niche. She was office manager and Vice President of Mytee Muffler for 20 years, a mom and pop shop that allowed her to spend time with the one she loved.

She was Past Commander of the D.A.V. Auxiliary. She was a member of the Sockdollar Social Group.

She had numerous hobbies including Bingo, playing cards and poker with her family and friends, bump, acey-deucy, camping and canoeing with her husband and friends, Sockdollar events, and spending all the time she could with her grandbabies as she called them. She was a lifetime Chicago Cubs fan and loved watching the games on TV. She was also known as the coupon queen, who one time saved eighty-nine percent on her purchase at the grocery store. Cremation has been accorded and a memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, at St. Marks Church. Memorials may be made to the St. Marks Building Fund or the St. Jude Children’s Hospital. The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. Pekin/Peoria is assisting the family with arrangements.
