Obituary for Amelia "Millie" Sangalli
Amelia “Millie” Sangalli, 97, of Pekin, most recently at Autumn Accolade in Green Valley, passed away at 3:40 p.m. on Sunday June 21, 2009 at Pekin Hospital. She was born April 17, 1912, in Moweaqua, Illinois to Domenic and Adele Bernardini Margelli. She married Jack Sangalli on October 17, 1931, in Pekin. He preceded her in death on October 22, 1980. She is survived by two sons, Jack S. Sangalli and Timothy J. (Jennie) Sangalli both of Pekin. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Steve Sangalli, David Sangalli, Cindy Link, Diana VanSomeren, and Beth Seidel, and twelve great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were two brothers, two sisters, one granddaughter, Teresa Sangalli, and her daughter-in-law Christina Sangalli. In her early-married years, she and her husband owned and operated a small grocery store on the north side of Pekin. Later they began farming on the east side of Pekin. Millie also sold real estate and was instrumental in procuring the property for the present site of the Pekin Country Club and subdivision. She and her husband enjoyed boating on the Illinois River in years past and were active in the Pekin Boat Club. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin and was a past member of its St. Vincent de Paul Society. For many years she was a Eucharistic Minister bringing weekly communion to residents of local nursing homes and others, confined to their homes. She enjoyed crocheting and had made hundreds of scarves with names included in the design. Millie always enjoyed visits by her many friends and family and will be greatly missed by all. A funeral mass will be held for Millie on Wednesday June 24, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Father Timothy Nolan will officiate with burial at Lakeside cemetery in Pekin. Visitation will be held on Tuesday June 23, at Abts Mortuary from 5 to 7 p.m. with prayers and a rosary at 7. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. It was Millie’s request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph School, 300 S. 6th St. Pekin or St. Joseph Church, 303 S. 7th St. Pekin. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Abts Mortuary.
