Obituary for Angelo L. Alessi
Angelo L. Alessi, 93 of Mesa Arizona formerly of Pekin died Saturday April 5, 2008 at 11:05 p.m. at the home of his daughter in Kahului Maui, Hawaii. He was born December 14, 1914 in Orchard Mines to Bartalo “John” Alessi and Lucia “Genoffa” Bianconi. He married Adalyn Memmen of Pekin June 10, 1937. She preceded him in death on September 13, 1995. Also preceding him in death are his son Joeph, sisters: Mary Maddalozzo, Florence Cornick and Louise Monti. Surviving is his sister Rose (Tony) Corso of Mapleton, children Andrea (Hinano) Kaumeheiwa of Kahului Maui, Trudie (David) Dreyer of Woodstock, John Alessi of Chicago and Claudia (Gary) Link of Pekin. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Angelo was a milkman for Schwab’s Dairy until it closed. He then worked for Producer’s dairy until retiring. While living in Pekin, he was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Moose Lodge and the Teamster’s Union. He was an accomplished dance band musician and lead singer, who played for dances throughout Pekin and surrounding areas. Upon retiring, he continued to play with The Snow Birds in Mesa, Arizona. Anelo was an avid story teller, who could relate detailed sketches about the life in Orchard Mines in the 1920’s and 1930’s. A Memorial Mass over Ashes with the Blessing of Ashes was held at Christ the King Church in Kahului on April 15, at 7 a.m. with Reverend Ronald Guzman presiding. Services will be held in Pekin at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Wednesday April 23, at 11 a.m., with Father Pat Fixsen officiating. Cremation has been accorded. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ the King School, Alessi Scholarship Fund, to any preferred Hospice organization and to Sister of Saint Francis of the Immaculate Conception.
