Obituary for Charles Bennett
Charles David "Bill" "Chuck" Bennett, 65 of Peoria Heights passed away Wednesday November 12, 2014 at his home with his family by his side, after a valiant fight against MSA, Multiple Systems Atrophy. He was born April 4, 1949 in Carruthersville, MO to Virgil P. and Nettie Lillian (Henson) Bennett. He married Marta Salazar on December 30, 1996, she survives. He is also survived by 1 daughter, Barbara (Chad) McCarty of Pekin; 3 sons, Cris Bennett, Cody Bennett both at home and Brad (Christy) Bennett; 6 grandchildren, Kiley, Katey, Audrey, Easton and Kampbell and Alexandrea; 1 great grandson Caleb; 1 brother Joe Bennett of Williamsfield; a sister-in-law Karen Bennett of Peoria, Step mother, Vonnie Bennett of South Pekin; 2 step-brothers Danny (Shelly) Smith of Kewanee and David Smith of Williamsfield; 2 step sisters Tammy (Jody) Stevens of Dahinda and Tina Hogsett of Hanna City. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Robert "Bruce" and Vernon Bennett. Chuck served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. Chuck worked for Caterpillar 38 years as a welder, retiring in 2011. He worked for many years in maintenance at Community Workshop and Training Center. Chuck was a jack of all trades and a master of all. He enjoyed making things useable and yet beautiful. He remodeled every house he owned. He enjoyed helping others when in need. The phone would ring, he gathered his tools and he was gone to fix a furnace in the winter or to unclog a toilet. He was an awesome son-in-law. If every son-in-law was like him this world would be a happier place. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be held Saturday, November 29, 2014 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Epic 1913 W. Townline Road, Peoria, IL 61615, followed by a meal. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family to assist with arrangements.
