Obituary for Charles Blessin
Charles W. Blessin, 87, of Peoria Heights died Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Cornerstone Rehab Center in Peoria Heights. The youngest of 5 children he was born September 16, 1926 in Mt. Vernon, IL the son of Edward R. and Rosa M. (Barber) Blessin. He married Irene A. Nelson December 26, 1948 in Peoria. They were married 62 years when she preceded him in death in 2011. He is survived by his sons: David W. (Vickie) Blessin, Stephen W. (Nancy) Blessin and his grandchildren Jennifer, Matt, Sarah and Curtis. Charles and Irene were actively involved in the Christian Science Church most of their lives and he served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946. Charles worked for the USDA Northern Regional Research Center for 30 years where he received numerous awards including a Superior Service Award from the USDA in Washington DC. He was retired for 34 years and for much of their retirement, they lived in Mira Loma, CA and Yuma, AZ before returning to Peoria. Cremation has been accorded and no services will be held. Memorials may be made in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
