Obituary for Charles Martin
Charles Austin Martin, 72, of Lacon, IL passed away peacefully at his home on August 12, 2015 at 11:55 pm after a difficult battle with cancer. Austin was born on February 21, 1943 to Louis Edward and Sarah Martin in Lawrenceburg, TN later moving to central Illinois in the mid-1950s. Austin served in the United States Army for 4 years during the Vietnam War. Austin was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, David Martin. Austin is survived by his wife, Sheila Strawn, whom he married in 1970, 4 children – Stacey (Michael) Shoemaker of Morton, IL; Austin (Jackie) Martin, Jr. of Lacon, IL; Josh (Aubrey) Martin of Houston, TX and Samuel (Ashley) Martin of Lacon, IL and his sister Joyce McCollum of Texas. Austin’s love for his 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild will never be forgotten. Austin was a machinist by trade retiring from Komatsu in 2004. Austin spent his retirement years working for Burroughs Ag Services and Kankakee Grain Inspection where he gained many great friends. Austin was a hard-working, honest man with the ability to repair or make anything anyone needed. His ability to fix engines and make parts will never be duplicated. He also had a great love for old country music and being in the outdoors. Austin will be laid to rest in the family cemetery outside of Lacon where a private service will be held.
