Obituary for Charles Rowan
Charles Alfred Rowan, 89, of Pekin passed away Friday, September 23, 2016 at Amy’s Country Manor in Pekin under the watchful and caring eyes of the manager and staff. He was born May 11, 1927 to Alfred and Tesse Juchems Rowan in Pekin. He married Melba R. Coons October 13, 1946 in Pekin; she preceded him in death June 13, 2016. He is survived by his daughter, Jill (Kelly) Vick; son, Philip (Mary Lynn) Rowan; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Frances Spillman. Charles served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific in the shore patrol on Peliliu Island and worked as a security guard for American Distillery for many years. He was a Proud Union Member. Charles and Melba helped build the first TAPS shelter. He was a member of the Second Reformed Church in Pekin. Per his wishes cremation has been accorded and no services will be held. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Amy’s Country Manor or his church in his name.
