Obituary for Dixie Vernon
Dixie L. Vernon (78) of Hanna City, Illinois passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2016. She was born in Rowley, IA; the daughter of Kenneth and Ivadell Nielson. It was there she met her future husband, Floyd Vernon. They were married September 29, 1958. Floyd’s military service moved them across the Midwest as a family several times until arriving in Hanna City. Through the years, while raising her family, she worked as an aide at Bel-Wood Nursing Home. She also clerked at The Antique Store and was the manager for the Bargain Basket; both in Hanna City. As her children grew, she left the “corporate“ world behind and began pursuing her passion for garage sales, trips to the riverboat, volunteering at the Benevolent Center, or simply spending time with her family. She is survived by one brother Terry (Noreen) Nielson of Marion, IA. and one sister, Diane (DeWayne) Ossman, of Rowley, IA. two sons, Mike (Vicki) Vernon of Bartonville and Steve (Linda) Vernon of Hanna City; three grandchildren, Danny Vernon of Peoria, AZ, Elyse Vernon of Peoria, IL and Leann Vernon of Dearborn, MI. Cremation has been accorded with no services as per Dixie’s request. In lieu of Flowers, memorial Donations can be made in her name to the American Cancer Society or the Alpha Park Library.
