Obituary for Donna L. Correll
Donna L. Correll passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, in her home on Friday, January 7, 2022. She was 88 years old.
She was born August 10, 1933, in Pekin, IL, to August and Louise (Alessi) Monti. Donna lived most of her life in Pekin. She was a devout Catholic and a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She graduated high school from the Academy of Our Lady in Peoria and later received her BA in Education from Bradley University.
Donna was united in marriage with William D. Correll on August 17, 1957. The couple had one daughter.
She began teaching at St. Joseph Catholic School in 1965. She was devoted to her students and to creating an excellent learning environment for them. Equally important to her was to teach and help instill in them a deep and abiding love for their faith. She touched the lives of hundreds of students, retiring in 1998 after 33 years of service. Even after her retirement she continued to regularly volunteer at the school assisting students. She was commissioned as a Eucharistic Minister, bringing communion and encouragement to the sick and shut-ins of St. Joseph Parish. Donna was also a member of the Resurrection Choir and St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, in 1958, and in the mid-nineties by her parents. She is survived by her daughter, Mary (Correll) Mecocci, and by her two grandsons, Augusto (Gus) Mecocci, and Alfredo (Fred) Mecocci, all of Peoria. She is also survived by one uncle, Paul Scodeller of Laguna Niguel, CA, and by many cousins.
Donna enjoyed many activities with family and friends as well as many hobbies, including gardening. The past 6 years, due to declining health, she made her home with her daughter in Peoria. She was much beloved and will be greatly missed.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday, January 17, 2022, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin. Father Michael Andrejek will officiate. Burial will follow the mass at Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin. Due to the pandemic the family wants people to be safe. Live stream of the funeral will be available at stjosephpekin.org
