Edward “Ed” Ernest Glaue, also with the nickname of “Pete” to his closest friends, went home to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of April 22, 2025. Ed was 87 years old.
Born in Hugo, Colorado, to Walter and Edith (Griffith) Glaue, Ed was raised on a farm where he learned the value of hard work and responsibility from an early age. He enjoyed playing sports during school, worked briefly in the oil
fields, and attended Bible seminary in St. Louis, MO before enlisting in the United States Navy. While serving, Ed was stationed at the Alameda Naval Air Station on San Francisco Bay in California.
While Ed was visiting his sister and her husband on a farm near Momence, IL, an occasion to visit the neighbors connected Ed with Nancy Anema for a first meeting. Stemming primarily from letter writing correspondence, Ed and Nancy fell in love. They were married on June 30, 1962, until Nancy’s passing in 2018.
Following his Naval service, after primarily working with the A4D and F-4 jet plane oxygen systems, Ed became a skilled printer pressman mastering multi-color Heidelberg and Harris Offset presses. With both Nancy and Ed in
their 70’s, they decided to retire together. Ed’s role in his later years was a school bus driver in the Bartonville, IL area — a role he often said he loved the most: driving and engaging with students.
Ed was a man of quiet strength, strong values, and deep faith. A devoted Christian, he lived a life rooted in prayer and service, faithfully interceding for his children, grandchildren, and the community. For many years, he made
a lasting impact on young lives — not only as their bus driver, but as someone who encouraged them, believed in them, and often welcomed them to his church’s Awana program and Sunday services.
Ed was a long-time member of Bethany Baptist Church in Edwards, Illinois, having joined in 1979. In the last five years of his life, he attended Living Hope Church in Bartonville, Illinois with his oldest son, Timothy, due to some
mobility limitations he was experiencing. Ed served as Sunday School teacher, deacon, and provided several experiential and insightful contributions over the years within various church settings.
He was a lighthearted man who always gave everyone he met the benefit of the doubt and treated them with kindness and generosity. Ed had a gift for seeing the good and potential in people. He offered gentle wisdom and
encouraging words, always hoping others would discover the joy of living well and walking with Christ. In more recent years, Ed lived independently at home. It was important to Ed to support his family in any way he could,
always pointing them toward a life of faith and integrity. Those who knew Ed will remember him for his gentleness, steady spirit, and unshakable faith. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those he loved and influenced — a life well-
lived in service to God and others.
Ed was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy (Anema) Glaue, and his daughter, Anita (Glaue) Johnson. He is survived by his children: Timothy (Laura) Glaue and Russell (GeeMin) Glaue. Brian (Anne) Johnson and the
Johnson family are also beloved as a part of the extended Glaue family. Edward leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Emily Johnson, Miranda Glaue, Paige Johnson, Kyler Glaue, Jaydn Glaue, Mykel Glaue, in addition to
Sophie Johnson, Evelyn Johnson, and Caleb Johnson as extended grandchildren. Ed has two sisters: Shirley (Glaue) Jones (husband Earl Jones, deceased) in Leander, TX and Barbara (Glaue) Hoppel (along with Ed Hoppel, both deceased) along with their extended families.
A memorial service will be held at Living Hope Community Church, 6116 W. Lancaster Road, Bartonville, Il 61607, on Memorial Day, May 26, 2025, at 11am with a visitation one hour prior and a luncheon will be provided after the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Bethany Baptist Church, 7422 N. Heinz Lane, Edwards, IL 61528 and/or Living Hope Community Church, 6116 W. Lancaster Road, Bartonville, IL 61607 in the name of Edward Glaue.
