Obituary for Edward H. Kurtz
Edward H. Kurtz, 83, of Peoria, IL died on Saturday March 7, 2009 at Lutheran Hillside Village. He was born in Douglas, Wyoming, the son of Louis and Bertha Kurtz on July 13, 1925. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Dorothy, and two sisters, Christina Huhn and Bertha Boni. Ed graduated from East Aurora High School, Aurora, IL. He served in the U. S Army during WW II in the Pacific Theater with the 5th Air Force. He married Dorothy D. Beamish on June 18, 1949 in Aurora. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Denver, 1950. His employment included a long tenure in sales/marketing at Teledyne Pines, Aurora, IL and Tunco Manufacturing, Flowery Branch, Georgia. Ed’s interests included membership in the United Methodist Church, VFW, and Elk’s Club as well as traveling and sports. He particularly enjoyed golf in his retirement years and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Ed is survived by three children: Craig (Judy) Kurtz of Versailles, KY, Janet (Tim) Bertschy of Peoria, IL and Nancy (Tad) Kerr of Dixon, IL and seven grandchildren. He will be remembered for his devotion to his wife, Dorothy, his love of family and friends, and his gentle and kind nature which brought a smile to all whose lives he touched. Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service will held at 11 a.m. on April 18, 2009 at the South Burlington Cemetery in Maple Park, IL. Gifts may be made in his name to Lutheran Hillside Village Foundation, 6901 N. Galena Road, Peoria or to the Alzheimer’s Association. The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. of Pekin/Peoria is assisting the family with arrangements.
