Obituary for Eugene Alesandrini
Eugene Serafino Alesandrini, 86, of Pekin, IL passed away on Monday March 12, 2012 at his residence. He was born October 9, 1925 in Pekin, IL to Galerano and Serafina Isella Gerlando Alesandrini. He married Ellen May Geer on December 23, 1944 at Shaw Field Air Force Base in Sumter, SC. She survives along with his children, Diane (Ronald) Nord of Bloomington, IL, Carol (Bill) DeBord of Pekin, IL, Eugene (Joyce) Alesandrini of New Concord, OH, Sue Bosich of Pekin, IL, Patrick (Mary) Alesandrini of Pekin, IL, Michael (Cathy) Alesandrini of French Village, MO; eighteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; sister-in-laws, Teresa Alesandrini, Helen Alesandrini and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Carlo and Angelo Alesandrini and grandson, Jacob. During service with the U.S. Air Force during WWII he was a 2nd Lieutenant fighter pilot. Returning to Pekin after military service, he worked as a self employed contractor and later founded Alesandrini Appraisal. He served 20 years as a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 98 where he had been a scout. He was an avid golfer, winning the Pekin Country Club Championship in 1956. He enjoyed fishing and bowling. He was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin, IL, where he was involved in Cursillo, WATCH Program, Prison Ministry, Liturgy Committee, Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Choir, Resurrection Choir and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Starting on his 25th wedding anniversary he and his wife Ellen became world skiers and travelers. Gene and Ellen celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on December 23, 2011. A funeral mass will be held Thursday March 15, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin, IL at 10 a.m. Msgr. Timothy Nolan will officiate. Cremation will be accorded following the service. A visitation will be held at Abts Mortuary in Pekin, IL Wednesday March 14, 2012 from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church Stair Renovation in his name.
