Obituary for Fern Snarr
Fern Jane Snarr, 89, of Peoria passed away on Friday, April 12, 2013. She was born on August 13, 1923 in Sioux Falls, SD, the daughter of Fred and Julia Swan. She was raised on a farm near Princeton, MN with 2 sisters & 4 brothers. She graduated from Princeton High School in MN (class of 1940). She was employed by Standard Oil Company in Fargo, ND during the Second World War. Fern married Otto Welton (“Tom”) Snarr on December 1, 1945. She was a resident of Laramie, WY from 1945 - 1958. They moved to Omaha, NE & resided there until 1963 when Tom went to work in administration for Bradley University. She was a long time member of First Federated Church of Peoria. She enjoyed golf and competed in the women’s league at Mt. Hawley Country Club. Fern also worked in the Administration building for District 150 prior to retiring in 1985. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, and two brothers.  She is survived by one sister (Mary Lou) & 2 brothers (Tommy & Earl), all from Minnesota. She is also survived by the clan she raised, including her son Frederick (Sheila) Snarr of Peoria & 4 grandchildren, Todd (Kimberly) Snarr of Dunlap, Wardney (Sara) Snarr of Peoria, Preston (D’Jaris) Snarr of Springfield, and Shayna (Drew) Larsen of Boulder, Colorado. She is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren. Fern was happily married to Tom for 51 years. During these recent years, she enjoyed watching sporting events, corresponding with friends & family, knitting & baking. Fern’s love of her family brought great joy to her life. She laughed often. Her wit, handwritten letters and her homemade pies will be greatly missed! No public visitation or memorial service is planned. The family intends to celebrate Fern’s life at a private family gathering.
