Obituary for Florence Rossi
Florence E Rossi, 100 years old, formerly of North Pekin passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Hopedale Nursing Home. Born on March 1, 1914 in Mapleton Illinois to William and Jennie Kuntz, she married John Rossi on October 15, 1940 in Pekin. John preceded her in death along with her parents, two brothers and one sister. Surviving are her son John (Kay) Rossi of Peoria, daughter Helen (Bruce) Fichte of Palatine Illinois, grandchildren Rick Rossi, Brett (Carolyn) Fichte and Brenda (Jim) Schwantz and 4 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Florence received an Illinois State Scholarship in 1927 when she graduated from 8

grade. This academic scholarship was for 4 years, all expenses paid, to any state university. Florence worked for American Distillery for 15 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin and their Council of Catholic Women, and the Italian American Women’s Club. Her family was her pride and joy. She loved being surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren playing games with them. She loved gardening and playing the organ. Visitation will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 9:00am followed by a funeral mass at 10:00am. Father Michael Andrejek will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin Illinois. In lieu of flowers masses appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic School.
