Obituary for Frances Bergman
Frances Bergman, 87, of Washington, IL., passed away Sunday, July 24, 2011, at her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born June 9, 1924, in Chicago, IL., to Alfred and Alice McGowan. She married her high school sweetheart, Herbert Bergman, on August 21, 1943. He preceded her in death May 19, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Gregory James, and her brother Jerry McGowan. Surviving are six children, Alice (Steve) Nieukirk, Herb Bergman, Jr., Larry (Carol) Bergman, Carol (Jim) Gee, Joyce (Jim) Taylor and Ken (Tamy) Bergman. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Kim Eccles, Kelly Hardesty, Jim Gee, Morgan Gee, and Renae Bergman, and seven great-grandchildren. A homemaker for most of her life, she later worked as a secretary for Bergman Builders. Fran was a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Parish in Washington. She was a fan of all sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals, Notre Dame Irish and Chicago Blackhawks. She will be greatly missed by her family, her cat Alfie, and all the people whose lives she touched. Cremation has been accorded through the Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. and private celebration of her life will follow at a later date. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick’s Church in Washington or OSF Hospice. The family would like to thank her doctors and the entire staff of OSF Hospital’s second floor renal care unit for their loving care of Frances and the support and guidance to her family.
