Obituary for Garret Wrhel

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Garret Wrhel, 79, beloved husband of Beverly, father of Matthew and Mark (Erika), grandfather of Mckenna and Maisie, brother to Joan (van Winkle) and his twin Gary (Sandra), and cherished member of the West Peoria community. Garret was born in Pekin, Illinois on March 1st, 1943 and raised by his mother Edith (Ripper) and stepfather Matthew Antonio. He met the love of his life, Beverly (Frampton), in Pekin where they married on October 8th, 1963, and eventually moved to Colorado to begin his career in the grocery industry. He spent two decades in Texas before returning to Illinois in the 1980s to work for and eventually buy Haddad's West Peoria Market, which he operated for many years before passing the business on to his son Mark. He was proud of his two sons and left a legacy of hard work and dedication to his family and community. Garret was a lover of dogs, country music, UConn women's basketball, and the landscape of the American West. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Godspeed.

Garret's sister, mother, wife, and stepfather proceeded him in death.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to West Peoria Volunteer Fire Department.

A visitation will be held on Monday, January 30, 2023, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Abts Mortuary in Pekin, IL. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, IL.

The family has entrusted Abts Mortuary in Pekin with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at abtsmortuary.com
