Obituary for Gary Deweese Sr.
Gary D. Deweese Sr., 73, of Delavan passed away Thursday, August 29, 2013 at UnityPoint-Methodist in Peoria. He was born January 2, 1940 in Delavan to Jesse and Ruby Slack Deweese. He married Sharon Dailey February 3, 1961 in Pekin. She survives along with his children, Cindy (Richard) Davidson of Stanwood, IA, Gary (Terri) Deweese Jr. of Hopedale, Landa Deweese of Roland, OK; brother, Keith (Melody) Deweese of Kilbourne; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lyann “Buzz” Deweese Heath; great-grandson, Zacharie; one brother and four sisters. Gary served in the U.S. Army National Guard as a heavy weapons infantryman. He worked many years for Fairbanks Scale Co. in Decatur and farmed for many years. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting and spending time with his family. Cremation has been accorded and a celebration of life luncheon will be held Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Delavan Lake Park from 12 noon to 6 p.m. Covered dishes will be welcome. Private burial will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Delavan American Legion Post 382 Annual Fishing Derby in his name.
