Obituary for Gary L. Reed
Gary L Reed of Marquette Heights, IL passed away at 6:41pm, Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home. He was surrounded by love and wearing one of his Cubs shirts. Born on June 16, 1960 in Peoria, IL to Lois and the late Harold Reed. He graduated from IVC High School in Chillicothe in 1978. On September 26, 1981, he married the love of his life, Juanita (Newell). Together they raised two daughters, Janelle McMahon (Tyler) and Brittany Reed. He had a 35-year career as a route driver for Interstate Brands and most recently worked for Sara Lee Inc. Gary was an avid fisherman, a top-notch mushroom hunter and a die-hard, lifelong Cubs fan. He loved sharing those hobbies with his 3 grandsons Aidan, Dayton and Camden, often using the swimming pool to show them how to use a fishing pole. He is also survived by two sisters, Tammy Reed Chase and Teresa Reed Eisele. He is preceded in death by his brother Ronald Richardson.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, December 17, 2016 from 6pm-9pm at Hilltop Bar and Grill, Creve Coeur, the same location as Gary’s benefit. Please dress casual, the family will be wearing Cubs attire in his honor. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, as it was special to Gary.
