Obituary for George Sweasy
George L. “Bud” Sweasy, 92, of Pekin, died at 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 29, 2012 at Pekin Manor in Pekin. He was born in Osage, Iowa, on January 17, 1920 to William and Rhoda Sweasy. He married Lois Eaton in Rock Island, IL on September 29, 1950. He is survived by three daughters, Linda (Tim) Tobin of Hudson, WI, Georgette (Melbourne) Sattler of Fair Oaks, CA and Jenny Rosecrans of Morton, IL; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and sisters, Jean Robinson and Lorraine Wilhite-Arnold. He proudly served five years in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He served on the USS Ingraham 444, George Fox Elliott and the LCI Flotilla 21. He was on the LCI Flotilla 21 during the invasion of Iwa Jima and Okinawa. George was a long time resident of Peoria. He worked for Prudential Insurance Company before working at Pabst Brewing Co. for over 25 years. Following his retirement from Pabst, he volunteered with several service organizations. In his later years, George attended Morton Christian Church. Cremation has been accorded and a celebration of life will be held Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Morton Christian Church, 1001 S. Fourth Ave., Morton, IL. Pastor Mark Westman will officiate.
