Obituary for George W. Lacey
George W. Lacey Sr. 79, of Peoria passed away on Thursday June 19, 2008 at his home. Born in Farmington on May 6, 1929 to John and Elizabeth Boldys Lacey Sr.. He married Dorothy A. Kucavik in Farmington in October of 1949, she preceded him in death on October 7, 1998. Also preceding is his son Patrick. George is survived by his children; George (Mary) Lacey of Woodenville, WA, Richard Lacey of Peoria, Patricia (Steve) Schmidt of Mapleton, brother John (Colleen) Lacey of Pekin, sisters Elizabeth “Babe” (Dale) Broadfield of Yates City, Mary Jo (William) Rogers of Farmington and grandson Brett Lacey of Normal. He was a member of Plumbers Local 63 and worked for Tobin Brothers and Roger Dunn and Sons, retiring in 1990. He also belonged to the Farmington Moose Lodge, St. Jude Knights of Columbus, Ducks Unlimited, Ducks and Geese Forever and Limestone Democrats. George was an avid hunter and fisherman, trained Labrador Retrievers and as part of the Farmington High Football team, he has been inducted into the Greater Peoria Area Sports Hall of Fame. Cremation has been accorded and a memorial mass will be held on Monday June 23, at 10 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Peoria. Father Terry Cassidy and Father Bert Heise will officiate. Inurnment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Ann’s Catholic Church. The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. is assisting the family with arrangements.
