Obituary for Gregory Brinkman
Gregory George Brinkman was born in Evergreen Park, IL, in Cook County, IL on May 12, 1950. Soon thereafter, his parents moved to Peoria, IL and that is where Greg grew up. He graduated from Richwoods High School and took some classes at IL Central College. At that time, the draft for the Vietnam War was ongoing. Greg enlisted in the Navy, but was given an Honorable Medical Discharge before completing basic training. Greg was trained as a carpenter and became a member of the union but ultimately joined his father's company, Brinkman Brothers Garage Door Company. He worked there for many years until the company was sold. At that time, he opened his own company, Greg Brinkman Garage Door Company. He only retired from that in the last year or so before he died. Greg's greatest love was in repairing anything mechanical. He could fix anything. Greg also collected, raced and remodeled late model Corvette cars. Greg passed away on April 25, 2015 of colon cancer. He was 64 years old. He is survived by his two sons, Eric and Tyler Brinkman and his three sisters: Lesley Brinkman-Mosiman, Linda Johnson and Christine Adams. He was loved and is sorely missed by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 2 p.m. with visitation at 1:30 p.m. at Abts Mortuary in Pekin.
