Obituary for James Underwood
James P. “Pat” Underwood, 70, of Groveland passed away at 3:50 p.m. Thursday, September 25, 2014, at Proctor Hospital. He was born on July 20, 1944, in Mattoon to James Dale and Genevie June (Hutchcraft) Underwood. They preceded him in death. He married Karen L. Phelps on September 29, 1979, in Creve Coeur. She survives. Also surviving are one son, Russell (Becky) Underwood and one daughter, Kelly Lake, both of East Peoria; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Mike (Veronika) Underwood of Marquette Heights; and several nieces and nephews. Pat retired from the P&PU Railway in 1999 after 35 years. He was a past member of the APA and attended Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in East Peoria. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 6, 2014, at Glad Tidings with Pastor Fred Doughty officiating. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Glad Tidings or the American Diabetes Association.
