Obituary for Jean Keithley
Jean H. Keithley, 93, of Peoria, died Sunday June 16, 2013. She was born March 15, 1920 in Medina Township in Mossville, the daughter of John S. and Frances Wilhelm Holmes. She married MacFarland Keithley on July 18, 1943 in Mossville. He preceded her in death January 4, 1988. Also preceding her in death were her daughter Marcia Ann Keithley and her son Stanley Lynn Keithley; two grandsons: Brian Mark Keithley and Jason Grant Hess; her sister Nellie H. Marshall and her two brothers, John R. Holmes and Donald C. Holmes. She is survived by two daughters: Cheryl K. Hess (husband Richard) of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, FL, Jane K. Kempin (husband Scott) of Evansville, IN, daughter-in-law Shirley Cusack of Brimfield, one granddaughter, Gayle L. Keithley of Dunlap, five grandsons: Kevin S. Keithley (wife Raquel) of Gray, TN, Kirk M. Keithley (wife Samantha) of Land O Lakes, FL, Ryne D. Kempin of Muncie, IN and Drew T. Kempin and Kyle J. Kempin of Evansville, IN, five greatgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Keithley was a 1942 graduate of Bradley University where she took pride in her affiliations with her Bradley heritage. She later earned her M.S. at Illiniois State University. She greatly enjoyed her twenty-five years of teaching high school Home Economics students at Athens High School, Chillicothe High School, and Peoria Central High School. She lived to bring education alive to every life she touched! She was a member of many professional organizations and a volunteer at Proctor Hospital. She taught 4H and served many years as a culinary judge at the Heart of Illinois Fair, was a member of Delta Kappa professional sorority, and together with her husband, Mac, were 25 year charter members at Arrowhead Country Club. She was a life-long member at Mossville United Methodist Church. Jean always enjoyed entertaining family and friends! A Memorial Service to celebrate Jean's life will be held at Mossville United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 22 at 10:00 a.m. The family will meet with friends after the service in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the John and Frances Holmes Memorial Scholarship at Bradley University at 1501 W. Bradley Ave., Peoria, IL 61525.
