Obituary for Joe Yock
Joe Yock, 102, of Pekin passed away at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2015 at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. He was born January 19, 1913 in Waukegan, IL to Joseph and Elizabeth Wenisch Yock. He married Minnie Lois Rinderknecht September 2, 1939 in Farmer City, IL; she preceded him in death June 18, 2011. They were married and held hands for 72 years and lived those years at 1513 Royal Avenue in the shadow of the Pekin Park. He was also preceded in death by his father, Joseph Yock Sr. December 10, 1937; mother, Elizabeth Yock December 24, 1977; brother, John Yock July 2, 1957 and sister, Elizabeth (Yock) McCurdy May 31, 2003. He is survived by his brother, Carl Yock of Pekin; sister-in-law, Ruth (Rinderknecht) Campbell of Peoria; brothers-in-law, Dave (Nancy) Rinderknecht of Arizona and Al (Beth) Rinderknecht of Iowa. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; great great-nieces and great great-nephews. Joe graduated from Spalding Institute in 1932. He worked for the Prudential Insurance Company for 34 years often recognized with the President’s Citation and he ranked 102 out of 22,000 agents in 1968. He retired in 1969, and enjoyed 46 years of retirement. He was very active in the United Way Campaign in Pekin. He was a Radar Operator on Fiji and Guadalcanal during WWII serving in the U.S. Army in both the Asiatic and Pacific Theaters from May 1942 to February 1946 when he was honorably discharged. He was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin, prior to that he pumped the organ at Sacred Heart Church in Pekin. He and Minnie offered assistance and friendship to Clergy throughout the Diocese. He was appointed by Bishop John B. Franz as St. Joseph Parish Trustee in 1970 and held this position for 35 years. He was a proud member of Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree and Charter Member 4th Degree Assembly 210, Archbishop Schlarman Council No. 3507, also serving as Trustee. He was President and Board Member of Catholic Social Services in Peoria for 12 Years. He was a participant in Cursillo #3 in Peoria. In 1998 was awarded the Conferral of Ecclesiastical Honor – Pere Marquette Award for outstanding service to Parish and Diocese. Hairless Joe had a great sense of humor, always having a story to tell. He loved people, company and conversation. His great memory stayed sharp until the end. His philosophy was God first, Minnie second and work third. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin. Father Michael Andrejek will officiate. There will be no visitation. Private burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Pekin. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church Organ Fund in his name.
