Obituary for John Jr. Savka
John Savka, Jr, 89, of Pekin formerly of Peoria passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. He was born in Royalton, IL to John and Mary Mickulcza Savka, Sr. on January 12, 1927. He married Norma Lee Pretty on March 31, 1951; she preceded him in death on November 30, 2000. His parents; son, John William Savka; daughter, Janet Sue Atteberry; granddaughters, Carrie and September; sisters, Mary and Ann and brother, Charles also preceded him in death. John is survived by his by his children, Patricia (Thomas) Scranton of Pekin, Mary Kay Hasler of Peoria, Kathy Ann (Marvin) Martin of Glasford, John Richard (Andi) Savka of Peoria and Chrystal Corbin of Salt Lake City, UT; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; brothers, Andrew (Kathy) Savka, Frank (Sharon) Savka and George (Linda) Savka and several nieces and nephews. John worked as a Transmission Assembler for Caterpillar for 10 years, he also worked for Keystone. He was a jack of all trades from building his own house, selling cars, repairing tv’s and drawing. He was a carpenter and enjoyed his garden. He loved his family and friends and was known as “Grandpa” to many. He had a kind and giving heart and would help anyone in need as if they were his own family. Cremation has been accorded and private family services will be held. Memorials can be made in his name to TAPS animal shelter.
