Obituary for John "Jack" Daniel O'Connell
John “Jack” Daniel O’Connell, 98, formerly of Pekin, Ill. passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka.
Jack was born February 13, 1924, in Dana, Ill. to Thomas and Emma (Louis) O’Connell. He married Betty Bennett on August 26, 1961, in Pekin. They loved to travel and dance. She preceded him in death on September 30, 2001. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Louis, Thomas, Joseph, and Francis; sister in law, Joan O’Connell; brothers in law and sisters in law, Walter and Wanda Bennett and Ray and Betty Bennett, and niece, Sandy Rapp. He is survived by sisters in law, Loisanne O’Connell and DeLores O’Connell and many nieces and nephews.
Jack attended schools in Dana and Minonk. He farmed in Kinsman, Ill. and later worked for Morton Buildings. Jack was a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, Archbishop Schlarman Assembly 210 in Pekin where he volunteered at Bingo. He also volunteered at Pekin Hospital for many years.
Jack was a member of and ushered at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin, where a visitation will be held on Monday, May 2, 2022, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with the Knights of Columbus Chalice Presentation at 11:00 a.m. Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. Father Michael Andrejek will officiate. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to donor’s choice in his name.
