Obituary for John Koteles Jr.
John C. Koteles Jr. 79, of Peoria Heights formerly of Pekin passed away Thursday August 11, 2011 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria at 12:15pm. He was born February 26, 1932 in Peoria, IL to John C. and Amy L. (Hobby) Koteles Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Joan of Pekin and many lifelong high school and bowling buddies. He is survived by 4 nephews, which includes his nephew and caregiver, Kevin Cassidy and several great nieces and nephews. John graduated from Spalding Institute in 1949. He served in the U.S. Army. He was retired from the Peoria & Pekin Union Railroad. He also worked as an auto and motor home salesman at several area dealerships. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Spalding Council 427, Assembly 206, where he was a 4

th

Degree Knight, Alhambra, and Friends of Fatherless Boys in which he was involved from its inception. An accomplished bowler, he was credited with the coveted 300 game and numerous high series awards.  He was well noted for a passion to help those that were truly in need.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin where a Funeral Mass will be held Monday August 15, 2011 at 11 am with visitation 1 hour prior at the church. Msgr. Michael Bliss will officiate. Burial will follow the service at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Peoria. The family offers thanks for the professionalism and care given to John by the Medical and Pastoral staff at the OSF Intensive Care Unit. Special thanks also goes to family, friends, classmates, and St. Clare staff that walked the extra mile for John’s extended care at OSF St. Clare Home. It is also noted that John passed away on the feast day of St. Clare.  Memorials may be made to Hand of Help Program, P.O.
