Obituary for John M. Fink

John M. Fink, 89, of Pekin, IL passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his family.


He was born May 24, 1935, in Lincoln, IL to Floyd and Frances Brown Fink. His parents; son, Kevin Fink; daughter, Theresa Appleyard; great-grandson, Luka Appleyard-Pekich; sister, Doris Mitchel and brother, Walter Fink preceded him in death.


He married Barbara J. Ratliff on August 12, 1955, in Mason City, IL; she survives. He is also survived by his daughter, Phyllis (David) VanDyke; son-in-law, Glen Appleyard; daughter-in-law, Rosa Fink; grandchildren, Rev. Sara (Rev. William) Appleyard-Pekich, Lindsay (Orlando) Delgado, Jenni (Randy) Bowers, Katie (Ryan) Vonk, Jessica (Erik) Counterman, Ryan (Sarah) Buley; ten great-grandchildren; brother, James (Marco) Fink and many nieces and nephews.


John served in the U.S. Army Reserves and worked for Caterpillar.


He was a member of the Frank N. Nicol #1170 A.F. & A.M. Mason Lodge in Creve Coeur and the American Legion Post 44 in Pekin.


John enjoyed gardening and camping. Most of all he enjoyed being surrounded by his family.


Memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude Children’s Hospital in his name.


Cremation has been accorded and a graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
