Obituary for John McCurdy
John William McCurdy, 73, passed away at 1:19 a.m. Saturday, December 20, 2014, at Pekin Hospital. He was born on October 28, 1941, in Peoria, Illinois, to William and Elizabeth Yock McCurdy. Preceding him in death were his parents; maternal and paternal grandparents; two uncles, John Yock and Howard Daily; four aunts, Minnie Yock, Florence McCurdy Daily, Norma Yock, and Marie Yock; one cousin, Judy Daily Herrmann; one brother-in-law, Tom Scott III; and one nephew, Thomas Scott IV. Surviving are one brother, Dave (June) McCurdy; one sister, Carie McCurdy Scott; three cousins, Julie Yock (Gary) Friederich; Tom (Pat) Yock; Mary Kay Yock (Tom) Pilat; one niece and one nephew. John graduated from Spalding Institute, Peoria, Illinois, where he received the Commerce Award. He served in the United States Army as a military policeman and subsequently worked as a leverman for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin, Illinois, for more than 50 years. John's funeral mass will be held on Friday, December 26, 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church (303 S. Seventh St., Pekin) with visitation at the church one hour prior to the funeral. Father Scott Potthoff will officiate. Following the service, interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Pekin.
