Obituary for Joseph Berardi
Joseph M. Berardi, 90, of Pekin passed away at 5:05 a.m. Monday, March 25, 2013 at the residence of his son and daughter-in-law, Leo and Karen Berardi with whom he made his home. He was born January 10, 1923 in Pekin to Peter and Lucia (Strada) Berardi. He married Henrietta “Penny” Woost on November 3, 1945 in Springfield, she preceded him in death August 11, 2000. He later married Shirley (Eschmeyer) Ziebold on June 21, 2008 in Pekin, she preceded him in death September 16, 2010. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by one daughter, Karen (John) Fisher of Marseilles; two sons, Richard (Gloria Gay) Berardi of Atlanta, GA, Leo (Karen) Berardi of Pekin; one sister, Adele Trettenero of Vacaville, CA; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great great-granddaughter. Joseph served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked as a policeman in Pekin for 20 years before retiring, was Police Chief in Minier and later worked for the State of Illinois retiring in 1974. He was elected President of the Village Board in Minier in 1984. He and his wife owned and operated Peek-In Ceramics. He also served 18 years on the Tazewell County Board and volunteered at the Pekin Township. He was a life member and served as a past Commander of the Roy L. King VFW Post 1232 in Pekin, was a Life and 56 year member of Empire Masonic Lodge #126 A.F. & A.M., a member of Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite-Valley of Peoria, and 40 year member of Mohammed Shrine. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pekin. Joseph was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Cremation has been accorded and private family services will be held. Memorials may be made to the Pekin Township in his name.
