Josslyn Jackie Mitchell, 12, of South Pekin, IL passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at her residence.
She was born on January 9, 2013, on the Fort Hood Army Base in Killeen, TX.
Josslyn is survived by her mother, Michelle (Jerry DeForest) Waugh; father, Branden Mitchell; brother, Jaxon Mitchell; stepsiblings, Kaydence DeForest, Kylee DeForest, Jerry DeForest III; grandparents, Susan and Tom Merkert, Robin Mitchell and Susan Tofanelli, Tina and Jerry DeForest; uncles, Joey Inman, Matthew Spry; aunts, Kori (Cameron) Johnson, Adrienne (Jake) Lipe, Rebecca Spry Jennings and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Jack and Veronica Waugh, Carol Paternoster; grandfather, Gerald Spry and aunts, Rachel Spry and Danielle Spry.
Josslyn attended South Pekin Grade School.
She loved her family. She also loved drawing, gaming, collecting and thrifting. Josslyn was very strong-willed, sassy and very funny.
A visitation will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Abts Mortuary in Pekin, IL. Cremation will be accorded following the services.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in her name.
