Lawrence “Larry” H. Grapperhaus, 89, of Pekin, IL passed away Friday, January 24, 2025, at Hallmark Healthcare of Pekin.
He was born July 4, 1935, in Breese, IL to Henry and Mary Alberternst Grapperhaus. He married Margaret R. Elling on October 03, 1959, in Carlyle, IL; she preceded him in death June 07, 2024. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Christopher Lawrence Hill; parents; siblings, Gene (Eileen) Grapperhaus, Arnold (Jeanette) Grapperhaus, Johanna (Herb) Laux, Adelia “Del” (Ray) Kreke, Marcella “Sally” (Benny) Benhoff, John Grapperhaus, Bernard “Benny” Grapperhaus and sister-in-law, Cynthia Grapperhaus.
He is survived by his children, Christie (Jon) Hill, Cindy Tosi, Carrie Schramm, Connie (Shawn) Mason; grandchildren, Nick (Angie) Berry, Samantha Berry, Cameron Hill, Colton (Jensen) Mason, Reno Mason, Blaze (fiancée, Lexi Petersen) Schramm, Trenten Mason; great-grandchildren, Chase Collins, Colby Berry, Harper Berry, Hollis Rae Mason; siblings, Raymond “Ray” Grapperhaus, Ralph (Reva) Grapperhaus, Henry “Hank” (Jeanie) Grapperhaus; sisters-in-law, Sally Grapperhaus, Irene Theising and brother-in-law, Joe Cunningham.
Larry served in the U.S. Army and owned and operated The Barber’s in Pekin until retiring in 2000.
He loved watching his grandchildren play sports. Larry was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was very active in his church, Knights of Columbus Council #3507, Pekin Moose Lodge 916 and his community.
Larry was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin where a Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. with visitation from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Father Michael Andrejek will officiate. Inurnment will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin at a later date.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic School in his name.
