Obituary for Leo Roberts
Leo Otto Roberts 94, of Farmington passed away on Tuesday July 13, 2010 at Farmington Country Manor, Born in Abington, IL on July 6, 1916 to Jesse and Mary E. Otto Roberts. He married Audrey Marie Taylor in Cuba on August 9, 1964. She survives along with his children: Barbara Lewis of Farmington, Betty (Harold) Timberlake Rein of Port Charlotte, FL, David Roberts of Creve Coeur, James Roberts of Washington State, step-children: Danny Taylor of Clyde, TX, Marvin Taylor of Creve Coeur, Mike Taylor of Yucaipa, CA, nephew John O’Neill and his many grand, great grand, great great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. His two sisters and step-son Dallas and step-daughter Ruth preceded him in death. Leo graduated from Canton High Scholl in 1933 and served in the Army during WWII. He went to work at Peoria Musical Instrument Co. and then at Warren Radio, retiring from there in 1978. Leo loved the outdoors, camping and fishing and was a licensed Amateur Radio Operator for 59 years receiving the call sign K9DGX. After his retirement Leo and his wife spent 20 years touring the western United States, spending the winters in Quartzsite, AZ. He also taught classes for those who wanted to earn their Ham License in Peoria, IL and Quartzsite, AZ. Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be held on Friday July 16, at 1 p.m. with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the Elmwood Baptist Church. Memorials may be made in his name to the Silent Key Memorial Scholarship Fund of the Peoria Area Amateur Radio Club.
