Obituary for Lucien "Ben" Shuler
Lucien Bennett “Ben” Shuler, 71, of Germantown Hills passed away Friday, June 23, 2017 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. He was born May 24, 1946 in Atlanta, GA to Lucien Bob and Barbara Fay Bedingfield Shuler. He married Kimberly Anne Andrus October 7, 1989. He is survived by is his loving wife; daughter, Marli Shuler of Charlotte, NC; son, Michael (Hyejeong) Shuler of Los Angeles, CA; sister, Susan (Leo) Dombrowski of Skokie, IL and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara Fay. Ben graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in Physics. He worked for Caterpillar as an Engineer; retiring in 2008 after 40 years. He was a Blue Coat Volunteer at UnityPoint Health Proctor. Ben loved all things about planes and boats. As a younger man he obtained his instrument rating as a private pilot and flew any chance he had. Later in life he enjoyed the technical side to sailing and the peacefulness it brought. Pontooning around his little local lake brought him much joy. He was soft spoken and always kind, a true southern gentleman. His family would like to offer special thanks to the caring angels who work at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home. Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be held Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Peoria, IL with visitation one hour prior at the church. A celebration of life reception will be held immediately following the service. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home 8630 Illinois State Route 91, Peoria, IL 61615.
