Obituary for Mabel Paddock
Mabel Rose Paddock, 80, of Dunlap passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2012 at her home, with her family. She was born October 3, 1931 in Bardwell, KY to Felmyr and Elizabeth Mae Pease Cissell. She married Glenn A. Paddock April 23, 1961 in Peoria. He survives along with her son, Charles “Chip” (Heather) Paddock of Mackinaw and her grandchildren, Jacob, Wendy, Lauren, Rachel and Zachary Paddock. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Jane Cissell. Mabel was a dedicated student and teacher. After graduating from high school at age 16, she went on to college at Murray State University in Kentucky, where she received her Master’s Degree in Education.  She taught for Peoria Public Schools for most of her career and also at Illinois Central College. She was also a dedicated fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and could often be found watching games, rooting on her favorite players and hoping for a win! Her favorite song was ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame.” Mabel was a faithful and active member of her church, Prospect United Methodist Church in Dunlap, where she served on the Admin Council and Mission Ministry Team and taught Sunday School. She also oversaw the Sacrificial Offering, volunteered her time at the food pantry and was a lifelong member of United Methodist Women, where she carried out her love for missions. Most important in her life, though, were her family and friends. She had a way of making everyone she knew feel special and loved. She wrote the kindest, most thoughtful and witty letters and thank you notes and had a way of remembering the small, but important details of other people’s lives. Cremation has been accorded and a Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Prospect United Methodist Church in Dunlap at 11 a.m., with a luncheon to follow. Memorials may be made to her church in her name.
