Marjory Joann Russell “Mommom”, 86, of Peoria, IL passed away Thursday, November 24, 2016 at Rosewood Care Center in East Peoria, IL. She was born July 9, 1930 in Clinton, IL to Joseph Edwin and Ethel Louella West Swearingen. She married her high school sweet heart George “Del” Russell on June 17, 1948 in Clinton; he survives. She is also survived by her daughter, Sara Kathleen Wade of Peoria; grandchildren, Derek (Dawne) Wade of Pekin, IL, Jennifer (Mark) Rempe of Chatham, IL, Joanna (Darren) Williams of East Peoria, IL, Peter (Joy) Wade of East Peoria, IL, Beth Wade of Denver, CO, Lance (Angela ) Russell of Peoria, IL, Eric (Shannon) Russell of East Peoria, IL and Cody (Tschara) Russell of Peoria, IL; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, John Mark Russell and sisters, Phyllis Caperelli and Rosalie Petronello. She was a graduate of Methodist Nursing School and worked for years as a nurse and provided care at the Smiley Living Center; retiring December 30, 1986. When asked the secret of their marriage of 68 years Marjory replied, “having God in your hearts, caring enough to put the other one first and marrying your best friend.” She lived her life by these two sayings. “I slept and dreamed that life was beauty and awoke to find that life was duty” and “If it is to be it starts with me”. Her many friends and family will mourn her loss and her smiles. She and her husband attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Peoria. The family is grateful for the loving care that the staff of the Rosewood Care Center provided her. A graveside family service will be held in Clinton at a later date.
