Obituary for Margaret (Peg) Orth
Margaret E. (Peg) Orth, of Peoria Il. loving wife and sweet mother, Passed away at her home on March 5, 2015. She was born September 4, 1921 in Evansville, Indiana. She was the daughter of Carl O. Kamp and Helen A. Kamp. She came to Peoria in January, 1928. Margaret – who was affectionately known as “Peg”, was married to Edward G. Orth on August 23, 1958 at St. Thomas Church here in Peoria. Ed survives along with two daughters, Kristine L. Stayton (husband Kerry) and Katherine L. Orth, two granddaughters LeeAnne Cotton and Kerstin Stayton and one great granddaughter, Acelya Richardson. Also surviving is nephew Carl G. Kamp and wife Lisa and their son Justin; nieces Connie Tumminelli, Wendy Grillo and Linda Sefton and her daughter Mickayla. Peg is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Carl M. Kamp and her daughter Karen L. Cotton. Peg was a graduate of Peoria High School Class of 1939. She married Kenneth C. Bruce on June 1st 1941 who died on April 18, 1957. During his career as a flight radio officer for PAN AM they lived for a short periods of time in Florida, Rio De Janeiro and California. Later he was a Tech Facilities Supervising Engineer at KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh. When Kenneth died suddenly, she returned to Peoria. Peg then met Ed at the annual Sports Car Club Halloween party where she was dress as a bum. To this day, “Bum” is Ed’s loving name for Peg. Peg was an integral part of EPIC (formerly PARC Peoria Association for Retarded Citizens). She was part of the PARC Foundation Board and served as Vice President of PARC in 1966. Ed and Peg helped with the beginning of Robert A. Jamieson School. Peg worked relentlessly to help raise funds for EPIC (PARC) and volunteer her assistance. Peg was active at the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed singing in the choir, teaching Bible school, and belonging to the ABW and Afternoon Literature Circle. Peg was on the Junior Women’s Club of Peoria, the Peoria Garden Club and enjoyed playing golf. She sang for Galena Park Nursing Home chapel services. She played cards with the “Oldest Bridge Club of Peoria”. You would often find Peg sewing - her favorite past time. She made beautiful quilts for her family members and was also the seamstress for Jim Ringness Boutique. Peg will be missed by her neighbors, friends and family. She touched so many lives during her time with us. For those of you who knew her, she would have loved for you to plant some Impatiens. Services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Peoria 411 West Lake Ave., on Saturday, March 14, 2015. The visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 11:00 with the memorial service following. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to EPIC 1913 W. Townline Rd. Peoria, IL 61612 or the First Baptist Church of Peoria.
