Obituary for Mark Barber
Mark David Barber, 55, of Rock Island, Illinois, formerly of Peoria, passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at 9:30 pm at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Mark was born in Rock Island, Illinois, on November 4, 1957, to Paul R. and Mardelle A. (Monte) Barber. He was preceded in death by his father. Mark is survived by his mother, Mardelle of Rock Island; his son, Matthew D. Barber of Carbondale; his brother, Rick of Rock Island; his uncles, Don (Glenda) Monte of California and Gene (Nancy) Monte of Arizona; his cousins and friends. Mark was a 1975 graduate of Rock Island High School and a graduate of Illinois Central College. He studied radio broadcasting in Tennessee and Iowa. A talented radio personality, he worked 30 years in radio broadcasting which included radio stations WGLO, WIRL and WMBD in Peoria; KUUL Radio in Davenport, Iowa; and KMZU Radio in Carrollton, Missouri. Mark also worked as a residential sales representative for TruGreen Lawncare in Davenport, Iowa, where he received awards for top sales representative. Mark was of the Protestant faith. An avid Chicago Cubs fan, he enjoyed watching many games in the Friendly Confines of Wrigley Field. He loved attending his son’s concerts, travel, music and golf. His favorite golf outing was at Pebble Beach in California. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Black Hawk State Park, 1510 46th Ave., Rock Island, Illinois, on Saturday, July 13, at 4:00. The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. Pekin/Peoria is assisting the family with arrangements.
