Mary Alyce (Schwinn) Rivera, age 64, of Pekin, IL passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at Carle Health Methodist in Peoria, IL.
She was born February 13, 1959, in St. Paul, MN to Arthur and Alice (Owens) Schwinn. Mary was originally from Vadnais Heights, MN. Her mother preceded her in death.
She married Jack W. Rivera on May 14, 1994, in Joliet, IL; he survives. She is also survived by her father, Arthur Schwinn of Vadnais Heights, MN; stepdaughters, Mary W. Rivera of Chicago, IL, Elizabeth W. (Joseph Springer) Rivera of Peoria Heights, IL; siblings, Debbie (Jacki Baxter) Klinger of St. Paul, MN, Charlotte (Fred) Anderson of Turtle Lake, WI, Sandy (Joseph) Adamson of Rochester, MN, Stephen (Paula) Schwinn of Woodbury, MN and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was a graduate of Hill-Murray Catholic School, Maplewood, MN. She received a BS Degree in Social Work from Winona State College, Winona, MN in 1981. She worked for Kraft Foods as a Marketing Analyst for several years after graduation.
Mary was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin, IL and was active in the RCIA Ministry. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and collecting Blue Ridge Pottery dishes and Disney “Winnie the Pooh”. She also enjoyed football, especially the Chicago Bears, traveling with her husband, concerts, antiquing, auctions, and was a very avid reader.
Cremation has been accorded and a memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pekin, IL with visitation one hour prior at the church. Father Michael Andrejek will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin, IL.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic School, Pekin, IL or Hill-Murray Catholic School, Maplewood, MN in her name.
