Obituary for Mary Elaine Vanderwulp
Mary Elaine Vanderwulp (Lanie), 91 of Green Valley, died Monday, May 5, 2014 at Heartland Health Care in Peoria, Illinois. Mary Elaine was born to Elmer and Ruby Altenbern Trowbridge on April 3, 1923 in Green Valley, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband E. Paul Vanderwulp. Survivors include two sons, Drew (Annette) Vanderwulp of Peoria, IL and Paul “Bud” of South Pekin, IL; two daughters, Deborah (Kenneth) Maher of Grand Junction, CO and Holly Vanderwulp of Carpinteria, CA and six grandchildren: Christopher (Talla) Smith; Rachel (Andy Sommers) Smith; Emily & Matthew (Sara) Vanderwulp; Alex Maher; Alyssa Vanderwulp & great grandson, Tyler Joseph. She was employed by Pekin Chamber of Commerce and Tazewell County. As an active lifelong member of Green Valley Presbyterian Church, she taught Sunday School, shared her musical talent as organist and served as an elder. An avid reader, she loved poetry, was a published poet in Treasured Poems of America, and a member of the Peoria Poetry Club. Volunteering at Tazewell County Genealogical & Historical Society, she enjoyed working on her own family genealogy. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at the Green Valley Presbyterian Church from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. Her celebration of life will be at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, June 12, 2014 at the church. The Rev. Ken Bryant will officiate. Burial will be in the Green Valley Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church. A loving person, she loved much, and was much loved. She will be greatly missed.
