Obituary for Mary Mathews
Mary Ellyn Mathews, 73, of Peoria passed away on Wednesday February 24, 2010 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. Born in New York City on August 13, 1936 to Ned and Madeleine Griffin Shnayerson. She married Thomas “Tom” McIntyre in Peoria on April 29, 1979. He survives along with her children: Ned (Cecilia) Garcia-Mathews of Peoria, Eric Isslehardt of Washington D.C., Ronald Broers of Salt Lake City, UT, Kelly (Bill) Mathews of Chicago and Ted (Diane) Mathews III of Des Moines, IA, brother Robert Shnayerson of New York City, six grandchildren and her uncle Robert Shnayerson of Miami Beach, FL. Mary was a member of the Anshai Emeth Congregation in Peoria, was the past President of the Moss-Bradley Residential Association, was on the state and Peoria boards of the A.C.L.U. and was the first Recipient of the David Citron Award and was proud to be one of the early volunteers for the Women’s Crises Line, which became Women’s Strength. She loved to travel but most of all loved gardening. Cremation has been accorded and a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday March 6

at 2 p.m. at the Westminster Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, 1508 W. Moss Ave Peoria. In Lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Center for Prevention of Abuse, P.O. Box 3855, Peoria, IL 61612. The Family would like to thank the Medical Staff at Methodist and the Greater Peoria Specialty Hospitals for their efforts in making Mary’s last days comfortable. The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. Pekin/Peoria is assisting the family with arrangements.
