Obituary for Mary Womble
Mary Womble, 83, of Farmington Country Manor, formerly of Mapleton, IL passed away at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, December 26, 2013, with her family by her side. Mary was born February 11, 1930, in Peoria, IL to George Vlahovich and Edna Wantling Vlahovich. They preceded her in death. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Womble and one infant daughter, Brenda Kay Womble. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Jack Vlahovich. Mary wed Melvin Womble on March 9, 1958. Mary is survived by her daughters, Debra (Richard) Morrow of Chicago, Sherry (Scott) Waters of Mapleton, step-daughter Melva Hunter of Peoria and step-son Gary (Lynne) Womble of California; grandson, Jason (Katy) Kluk of Chicago, Joseph Waters of Mapleton, Todd Browder (Laurie Folk) of Chicago, Greg Browder of New Mexico, Ryan (Jenny) Womble of North Carolina, and granddaughters Melanie (Dave) Anguiano of Chicago, Erica (Dave) West of Mapleton, Rachel (Joseph) Roderick of Mapleton, Kathryn Waters of Chicago and Erin (Michael) Jackson of California and eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. While Mary was a waitress in her younger years, she was a homemaker for the majority of her life. Her most important job was caring for each of her grandkids at one point in their lives. She was a member of St. John’s/St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Peoria. She took pride in lending her voice to the St. John’s Choir, and she was active in the Ladies’ Guild. Mary was known for her sassy attitude, dedication to sun-bathing, devotion to her programs, love of shopping, and keen knack for making melt-in-your-mouth fudge. Most of all, she will be remembered for the love and care she provided her family: from religiously cooking Melvin’s favorite dinners to caring for her grandkids to teaching her own children how to grow into loving parents that have become pillars of their own families. A funeral mass will be at 3 p.m. Monday, December 30, 2013, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, with Fr. Terry Cassidy officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour before at the church. The family would like to thank the staff at Farmington Country manor and Harbor Light Hospice for their support and professional care.
