Obituary for Maurice (Jim) Stutes
Maurice Jean “Jim” Stutes, 79, of East Peoria, IL died Friday, October 25, 2013 at home under OSF Hospice care. Maurice was born October 8, 1934 in Lewistown, IL. The son of Andrew and Madelon (Puckett) Stutes. He was the foster son of Lemuel and Edith Griffith. He graduated from Yates City High School. He married Alma R. Beets on July 4, 1954. Maurice served in the U.S. Army. He worked at Caterpillar for 30 years and later at the Salvation Army Headquarters. He was a member of Bradley Epworth Church in Peoria, IL. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Cindy (Ray) Reeves of Albany, OR and Cathy (Cary) Schoedel of East Peoria, IL; three grandchildren and two step-grandsons. Also surviving are his brothers, Robert (Hanna) Staley of Mountain Home, AR, Robert Stutes of Golden, CO, Andrew Stutes, Jr. of Mesa, AZ, James (Louise) Hunter, Terry (Karen) Stutes, Larry Stutes and sister, Carol (Ted) Myetich all of Lewistown, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Letha Johnson and brothers; Leon, Damon and Gilbert Stutes. Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be held at Abts Mortuary in Pekin, IL on Wednesday, October 30, at 4 p.m. Rev. Judy Doyle will officiate. The service will be followed by a celebration of life from 4:30 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Salvation Army.
