Obituary for Melvin Womble
Melvin Womble, 84, of Farmington Country Manor, formerly of Mapleton, IL passed away at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, with his family by his side. Melvin was born March 31, 1929, in Graves County, KY, to Thomas Allen and Agatha Frances Carney Womble. They preceded him in death. Melvin was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Brenda Kay Womble. He was also preceded in death by seven brothers, J.T., Ishmael, Allen, Rafe, Eldon, Harold, Don and one sister, Mildred all of Kentucky. Melvin married Mary L. Vlahovich on March 9, 1958. Melvin is survived by his wife, Mary, his son, Gary (Lynne) Womble of California and three daughters, Melva L. Hunter of Peoria, Debra (Richard) Morrow of Chicago, Sherry (Scott) Waters of Mapleton; grandsons, Todd Browder (Laurie Folk) of Chicago, Greg Browder of New Mexico, Ryan (Jenny) Womble of North Carolina, Jason Kluk of Chicago, Joe Waters of Mapleton and granddaughters, Erin (Michael) Jackson of California, Melanie Kluk (Dave Anguiano) of Chicago, Erica (Dave) West of Farmington, Rachel (Joseph) Roderick of Mapleton and Kathryn Waters of Chicago and seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Melvin worked for Caterpillar for 36 years, retiring in 1985 as a General Foreman in Quality Control. He was a member of St. John’s/St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Peoria and the Knights of Columbus and served as President of the Men’s Club for St. John’s parish for many years. He was an active member of the Peoria Southern Valley Association and supervised summer youth programs for the Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and attending his grandchildren’s school and sporting events. A devoted family man, Melvin loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren. He was very proud of each of his grandchildren. Melvin was an avid Cardinals fan and was fortunate enough to attend the 1982 World Series. The family would like to thank the staff at Farmington Country Manor and Harbor Light Hospice for their support and professional care. Cremation rites have been accorded, with a private family service.
