Obituary for Merle Stomberg
Merle L. Stomberg 85, of West Peoria passed away on Sunday March 27, 2016 at Heddington Oaks Nursing Home. Born in Peoria to John and Clara Stomberg on July 31, 1930. He is survived by his children: Merle “Joe” (Tammy) Charlton, Charlotte Turner, Cheryl Spencer, Laurie (Greg) Noel, Tracy Swartz and Harry (Diana) Stomberg. He also leaves behind several grandchildren and great grandchildren, his significant other, Shirley Bensel and his cat Boots. His parents, brothers: Art and Mervin, sons: Gale and Bob and grandson Eric Showens preceded him in death. Merle severed in the US Army during the Korean War, worked as a mechanic at Phillips 66 and at Versa Press and was a Shriner. A Visitation will be held at Abts Mortuary in Pekin on Friday April 1st from 5 to 7 p.m. with a funeral service being held at 9 a.m. on Saturday also at Abts Mortuary. Burial will follow at Springdale Cemetery in Peoria.
